Prevent toe malpositioning with Hallux valgus supports

Hallux valgus bandages caneffectively prevent the toe malpositioning of a Hallux valgus if you use them at an early stage of the disease if possible. You can recognise a Hallux valgus by the fact that the first metatarsal is increasingly shifting in the direction of the other foot. This leads to a widening of the affected forefoot and a protrusion of the ball of the foot. At the same time, the big toe bends towards the other toes, which can also bend as a result.

Is Hallux valgus associated with pain?

Hallux valgus is not always associated with pain, but when it does occur, it is on the bulging ball of the foot, the toes and the underside of the metatarsus. This happens mainly when the shoe presses against the deformed foot. In the long run, this condition can lead to nerve damage in the big toe, which is accompanied by numbness and can be dangerous, especially for diabetics. Sometimes so-called hammer and claw toes develop, or a reddened, swollen bunion occurs as a result of joint inflammation. Usually corns develop due to the friction between the toes and the big toe becomes increasingly immobile.

What does a Hallux valgus bandage do?

Hallux valgus supports are a sensible investment and help to relieve the foot, as they keep the big toe in its natural position and relieve the ball of the foot. The progression of the disease is temporarily slowed down or stopped. With Hallux valgus supports, you can delay surgery or, ideally, avoid it altogether. You can initially wear them as a Hallux valgus night bandage. This is also helpful if you already suffer from chronic pain at rest.

Which bandages help with Hallux valgus?

A hallus valgus splint or brace will help relieve your discomfort and stop the condition. Special hallux valgus shoes and joint splints can correct the toe malposition and relieve the painful bunion area. The Hallufix Hallux valgus splint with a patented joint splint system, you can wear day and night. This maintains the mobility of your big toe metatarsophalangeal joints. With this hallux valgus correction brace, your ball of foot and metatarsal area are noticeably relieved during the day when walking and standing.

What do Hallux valgus splints do?

The Hallufix Hallux valgus brace allows you to roll your affected foot again without pain. You can wear this splint preventively as a Hallux valgus night bandage or during the day in comfortable shoes or for stabilisation after a Hallux valgus operation. In this way, you ensure that the good result after a surgical intervention is maintained and that a malposition does not occur again. By relieving the pressure on your foot with the splint, you will be free of pain again more quickly. The Hallufix splint consists of a gel side cushion and a metatarsal and toe bandage. It can be worn on the left or right side. A replacement set is available. For prevention of an existing splay foot, you can wear the Hallufix deflection splint with pad, metatarsal bandage and side cushion. Other aids are toe spreaders and hammertoe pads.

What are the advantages of a Hallux valgus support?

Hallux valgus bandages in the form of taping loops are an inexpensive alternative to a splint and are available in brown, blue and skin-coloured. The advantage is that they can be worn in almost all shoes and are easy to apply. There is no skin irritation with them and they do not need to be renewed daily. The taping loops are machine washable. It is recommended to order them one size larger. A soft alternative is the Hallufix Softies Bunion Protector Plus with toe spreader in universal size.

What other aids are available for Hallux valgus?

In addition to Hallux valgus bandages, there are other ways to treat Hallux valgus and relieve the pain associated with it. These include therapeutic sandals and mules as well as arnica ointments or gels. Various pain gels can also provide relief, as well as foot care products for calluses and skin problems, such as the Smoothie care emulsion from Hallufix. Special splayfoot soles with mobile pads also provide relief for the footbed. These can counteract further deformations of the feet and relieve pain in the mid-foot area.

When is hallux valgus surgery necessary?

In the last stage, surgery is almost inevitable and therefore you should stop this process in time with Hallux valgus bandages. If left untreated, Hallux valgus often promotes the development of arthrosis in the big toe joint with chronic pain. In addition, the deformity of the foot and toes can make your gait unsteady and increase the risk of falling. Hallux valgus is the most common foot deformity worldwide. In Germany alone, it affects about 10 million people, and most of them are women. You can prevent it by walking barefoot, doing foot exercises and wearing comfortable shoes that provide enough space for all your toes. If you have splay feet, wearing Hallux valgus sandals will prevent further foot deformities. Sometimes nothing helps if there is a genetic predisposition, weakness of the connective tissue or rheumatic diseases.

What good are Hallux valgus sandals and mules?

Therapy sandals and mules are available in different colours with genuine leather. With these therapy shoes, your big toe is regulated with the big toe strap via a knob. This allows you to ideally integrate Hallux valgus therapy into your everyday life. There are even special socks for these sandals or mules so that your feet don't freeze. Therapy sandals are very comfortable to wear during the day, especially in summer, and at night you can put on the Hallux valgus splint or Hallux valgus bandages.

Are there any other tips against Hallux valgus?

You can support your foot health and strengthen the foot muscles with regular foot exercises as well as a foot massage with creams containing arnica. It is best to take the opportunity to walk barefoot as often as possible. This is best done outdoors on uneven terrain, such as dirt tracks or on the beach in soft sand. On smooth surfaces, on the other hand, it is rather counterproductive, especially for people who are overweight.

FAQ

Yes and Hallux valgus supports are available on prescription. You can order Hallux valgus bandages online or purchase them from orthopaedic retailers. Physiotherapy can strengthen the muscles in the foot, but this very rarely compensates for a non-functioning capsule and ligament system.
